Erickson's retirement sparks interest among candidates

ICYMI, state Sen. Ted Erickson, R-26, of Newtown, recently announced he was planning to retire at the end of 2014.

Since then, a couple of names of potential Republican candidates have been floated around.

Some of those Republican names include county council Chairman Tom McGarrigle of Springfield, state Rep. Nick Miccarelli, R-162, of Ridley Park, county Executive Director Marianne Grace of Upper Darby and state Rep. Joe Hackett, R-161, of Ridley Township.

Top Republican officials said it's too early to discuss who the endorsed candidate will be. It makes me wonder if there could potentially be a Republican primary race next year.

On the Democratic side, Ridley Township resident John Kane, business manager for Plumbers Union Local 690, is eyeing the seat. Dems view this seat as a pickup opportunity.

UPDATE: A fifth Republican name, Kelly Colvin, surfaced Tuesday.

Nice to see a lifetime government freeloader and 2005 midnight Payjacker go. Too bad we'll be paying his ridiculous pension for all that "service".
