DNC in Philly?

Several business, labor and political leaders from across the region discussed the prospect of convening the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia during a meeting Wednesday morning.

“It’s a great idea,” said Delaware County Democratic Party Chairman David Landau, who attended the breakfast meeting. “It would be tremendous for this region.”

Landau said the meeting was convened by U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, D-1, of Philadelphia, who is chairman of the Philadelphia Democratic Party. The meeting took place at the Union League of Philadelphia.

Landau said the last time there was a Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was in 1948 when Harry Truman was nominated for president. The last time there was a Republican convention in Philadelphia was in 2000.

Landau said the convention would have a positive economic impact on the region, including Delaware County which has a lot of hotel rooms and the nearby Philadelphia International Airport.

“It would bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the regional economy,” said Landau.
