Council adopts resolution for national child abuse prevention month

Delaware County Council adopted a resolution Wednesday designating April national child abuse prevention month.

Delaware County Councilman David White said many organizations work together to promote awareness of the need to prevent child abuse. Some of those organizations include the Delaware County Office of the District Attorney, the Delaware County Children and Youth Services Agency, the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health Coordination, the Delaware County Library System, Court Appointed Special Advocates For Children, Family Support Line and PathWays PA.

White said local groups and businesses are contributing funds toward the purchase of the book, “My Body Belongs to Me,” written by Jill Starishevsky, a prosecutor of sex offenders. He said the goal is to purchase 100 books for distribution to all Delaware County libraries, school and child care facilities.

Contributions can be sent to Stand for Children c/o Delaware County Library System, 340 N. Middletown Road, Fair Acres Building No. 19, Media, PA 19063.

Local officials will read a copy of the book to children at an event scheduled for 2 p.m. April 18 at the J. Lewis Crozer Library, located at 620 Engle St., in Chester.
