Pileggi wants to eliminate Philly's Traffic Court

State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, R-9, of Chester, has plans to introduce a two-bill package which would eliminate Philadelphia’s Traffic Court.

In Jan. 10 co-sponsorship memo to members of the state Senate, Pileggi referenced an investigative report commissioned by the state Supreme Court which “concluded that the Philadelphia Traffic Court has ‘two tracks of justice – one for the connected and another for the unwitting general public.’”
“No other county has a separate Traffic Court, and there is no objective evidence that the continued existence of the Philadelphia Traffic Court would serve the public interest,” Pileggi’s memo states. “Whatever reason may have existed in the past for Philadelphia to have a separate Traffic Court no longer exists.”
