Group blasts elimination of GA program
About 100 protesters gathered outside a district office of state Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, R-9, of Chester, on Wednesday afternoon to voice concerns about a proposal to eliminate the General Assistance cash benefit program.
People who receive General Assistance include disabled or sick adults without children, domestic violence survivors, adults caring for someone who is sick or disabled, and adults participating in alcohol and other drug treatment programs.
If the program gets eliminated, it will affect nearly 70,000 people in the state, including about 1,700 from Delaware County.
“We call on Sen. Pileggi to reject the budget he negotiated and save General Assistance,” said Lance Haver, who organized the rally on behalf of a coalition called PA Cares For All.

The governor suggested eliminating the program back in Febrary. And Republican lawmakers have indicated they are not going to restore funding for this program.
As the saying goes, the protest might have been too little, too late. What do you think?
