U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan, R-7, of Upper Darby, announced he will host a forum about synthetic drugs on May 29.
The drugs, commonly sold as “bath salts,” are reportedly on the rise in many high schools in Southeastern Pennsylvania, according to Meehan’s office. These drugs are illegal in Pennsylvania but remain legal in other states which makes it easy to purchase them online, according to Meehan.
Meehan has called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Synthetic Drug Control Act. House Resolution 1254 was introduced by U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Pa. It was passed by the House in December.
The forum will begin at 2 p.m. May 29 at the Upper Merion Area School District Administration Building in King of Prussia.
