GOP officials want Meehan to run for Senate
Republican officials across the state are hounding U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan, R-7, of Upper Darby, to run for Senate against U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, Jr.
Delaware County GOP Chairman Andrew Reilly confirmed Thursday that he has received several phone calls from Republican officials across the state who have relayed that they would be supportive of Meehan if he had an interest in running for Senate.
“(Meehan) has a great reputation across the state for helping his constituents,” said Reilly.
Next question: Does that mean Meehan will run?
It's unclear at this point. His spokeswoman, Maureen Keith, says he is focused on the 7th district. Reilly also said Meehan seems focused on the district.
Meanwhile, there is a slew of other people who are expressing an interest in running against Casey. They include David Christian, a Bucks County businessman; Marc Scaringi, a Harrisburg-area lawyer; John Vernon, a retired U.S. Army colonel from Tioga County; and Steven Welch, a businessman from the Philadelphia suburbs.
Final question: As a resident of Delco, do you think Meehan would make a good U.S. Senator?
